Phones of 1,400 people have been spied on through WhatsApp - Facebook reports that journalists, academics and human rights activists in India may be affected.
 Chennai: Facebook has revealed that the phones of 1,400 people in 20 countries have been spied on through WhatsApp.




 It has been revealed that the WhatsApp processor was spied on with software called 'Pegasus' produced by the Israeli NSO.  While it is not known how many people have been affected in India, there are reports that journalists, academics and human rights activists may have been affected.

 Facebook added in its statement: “In May 2019, we prevented a sophisticated cyber attack.  Malware sent to WhatsApp users' phones via video calls.  We immediately released a new version of the WhatsApp processor with the appropriate security features.  Further steps are being taken to protect WhatsApp users.  We have sent special text messages to about 1,400 users who are considered vulnerable. ”  Thus stated in the statement.
